In ancient Israel, the Levitical tribe received the best “portion” of the land: they led the worship of the Jews. Their “lot” was worship. Their “portion” was the Lord. This meant regular service at the Temple in Jerusalem. It also meant singing the divine praises during religious processions – for instance, when David danced into the city along with the Ark of the Covenant. As religious, worship is our greatest service to the Church. It flows directly from our state of life, our call to be consecrated men [set apart for worship]. We want to have the Levites’ same joy, their same zeal as everyday we gather to praise the first, the last, and the almighty one.
