- Verse 1:
- Singer 1: “Here comes that dreamer boy, it seems that he’s been taken by some crazy notions. He’s got religion, and I hear that it’s been givin’ him some strange devotions. Try not to be kind to him, try to change his mind – he’s really gone. It won’t be hard; he thinks he’s right, but we can show him that he’s wrong.”
- “Be more realistic boy, the mystic’s joy is nothin’ but a shapeless shadow. Your city fancy’s got you dancin’ to the music that it’s cold and narrow. Open you mind, you’re bein’ blind, you gotta take a look and see. Come on, let go, and I will show you what it means to be free.”
- Singer 2: But I said, “Freedom to you means slavery to me; you want to bind me with a deadly cord. But joy and peace and happiness in life are the slavery that I’m headin’ towards. Safe in the hands of the Lord.”
- Verse 2:
- Singer 1: “Hey, you’re not listenin’; this Jesus thing is bound to bring you shame and sorrow. You know, I’ve heard it said, ‘You’ve lost your head,’ and who knows what they’ll say tomorrow? Your quote salvation’s gonna wreck your reputation once ‘n’ for all. You were a winner man, but everybody says, ‘You’ve had a fall!’”
- Singer 2: But I said, “A man-pleasin’ man, I hope I never am; I’m not lookin’ for a flatterin’ word. But all I ask is a Heavenly task and a good and faithful servant’s reward. Save in the hands of the Lord.”
- Verse 3:
- Singer 1: “Well how ‘bout money then, you know that it ain’t funny when you’re down and out. Life’s for the takin’ if you got the bucks to make it, that’s what it’s all about. You’re spendin’ all you got on God, so there’ll be nothin’ left for you. You’re gonna wind up bein’ empty when what I’m tellin’ you is true.”
- Singer 2: But I said, “Riches to you spells poverty to me; you’ll try to take my heart and leave me poor. Cause I’ve got a treasure that’s more that I can measure – that’s what I’m livin’ for. Safe in the hands of the Lord.”
- “O God, my Lord, how ugly is this world, when my eyes are on Your glorious throne. To live for you is all I want to do, till You take me to my Heavenly home. Safe in the hands of the Lord, that’s where I’ll stay, safe in the hands of the Lord, I’ll never stray. Safe in the hands of the Lord.”
